Convert PDF to Excel without retyping

PDFCells turns tables in PDF files into Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx). It handles bank and credit card statements, invoices, financial reports, price lists and scanned paperwork. Drop in a PDF and every page gets a pre-check: digital pages are read exactly from their embedded text, scanned pages go through OCR, and broken or irregular pages can go to AI. Before you download, every table opens in an editable grid next to the page, with suspect cells flagged.

Frequently asked questions

Is PDFCells free?

Yes. Converting digital PDFs and running OCR on scans is free and unlimited because it runs in your browser. Signed-in users also get 25 free AI pages a day. Beyond that, AI pages cost Anthropic's token price plus 15%, usually well under a cent per page on the Fast tier. You can also use your own Anthropic API key.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and converted on your device. Only pages you explicitly send to AI leave the browser, as a single rendered page image, and they are not stored.

Can it convert scanned PDFs to Excel?

Yes. Each page is checked first. Scanned pages can be read with free OCR in your browser or with Claude AI, which handles skewed, low-quality and photographed pages better.

How do I fix mistakes before downloading?

Every table opens in an editable grid next to the page. Cells that look wrong are flagged, such as totals that don't add up, text in a number column, or low OCR confidence. You can edit, merge or split columns, or ask AI to fix a table with a plain-English instruction.

Does it keep numbers as numbers in Excel?

Yes. Amounts, percentages, parenthesised negatives, currencies, decimal-comma formats and dates become real Excel values with consistent column formats. Header rows are frozen, and tables that continue across pages are joined into one sheet.
