Convert a Capital One credit card statement PDF to Excel

Open the Capital One card statement PDF in PDFCells and download Excel. Capital One prints dates as a month name and day without the year (Aug 6) and credits as “- $12.84”, so the amounts become signed numbers. The CSV, OFX and QBO exports take the year from the billing cycle; in the Excel sheet the dates stay as text.

Converting it with PDFCells

  1. Download the statement PDF from Capital One online banking (Statements). A PDF saved from online banking has a text layer, so it is read exactly and free.
  2. Open it at pdfcells.com. The PDF is opened and converted on your device. Nothing leaves the browser unless you choose an AI feature, and then only what that feature needs (exactly what is sent).
  3. Check each table against the page in the grid. Untick any table you don’t want, such as a daily balance summary.
  4. Download Excel.

Capital One’s own history

For checking and savings, Capital One says the website shows the past two years of activity and statements cover the past seven years (capitalone.com, checked October 2026).

Questions

Why are Capital One dates text in Excel?

They print as a month and day without a year (Aug 6). In Excel, add the year from the billing cycle with DATEVALUE; the CSV export already has full dates.

Try it on your own file. Open a PDF in PDFCells, check the tables against the page, then download Excel, CSV, OFX or QBO. Reading text PDFs and OCR are free, need no account and run in your browser.
