Convert a PNC statement PDF to Excel
Open the PNC statement PDF in PDFCells and download Excel. PNC lists activity in sections (deposits, card purchases, electronic deductions) with the amount before the description and no sign. The CSV, OFX and QBO exports sign each section and take the year from the statement period; in the Excel sheet, negate the withdrawal sections and add the year to the MM/DD dates yourself.
What a PNC Virtual Wallet statement looks like

| Daily Balance Detail | Four Date/Balance pairs side by side; a negative balance has a trailing minus (33.06-) |

Converting it with PDFCells
- Download the statement PDF from PNC online banking (Statements). A PDF saved from online banking has a text layer, so it is read exactly and free.
- Open it at pdfcells.com. The PDF is opened and converted on your device. Nothing leaves the browser unless you choose an AI feature, and then only what that feature needs (exactly what is sent).
- Check each table against the page in the grid. Untick any table you don’t want, such as a daily balance summary.
- Download Excel.
- Signs: withdrawals and deductions come out positive, as printed. In Excel, multiply those sections by −1 before summing; the statement exports sign them by section.
- Trailing minus balances such as
33.06-are read as −33.06. - Daily Balance Detail is a side-by-side table of balances, not transactions; if it comes out as its own table, untick it, or check that its rows didn’t join the last section.
- Statement formats: withdrawal sections are signed as money out, dates take their year from “For the period …”, and the statement is checked against PNC’s Balance Summary before OFX, QBO and the CSVs are offered.
Adding the year in Excel
The statement prints the year only in its period (“For the period 09/25/2025 to 10/24/2025”), so in the Excel export the date column stays as printed text such as 01/05. If you only need the transactions, the bank CSV export already has full dates (it takes the year from the statement period). To add the year in the Excel sheet instead, put the closing year in F1 and the closing month number in G1, then fill this down a new column:
=DATE($F$1-(VALUE(LEFT(A2,FIND("/",A2)-1))>$G$1), VALUE(LEFT(A2,FIND("/",A2)-1)), VALUE(MID(A2,FIND("/",A2)+1,2)))
Rows from a month after the closing month (December rows on a January statement) get the previous year. Format the column as a date and copy it over the original as values.
PNC’s own download
PNC online banking offers activity downloads for recent transactions; check your account for formats and range, and use the PDFs for older periods.
Questions
Why does the amount come before the description?
PNC prints the amount column before the description, and PDFCells keeps columns in the order printed. You can move the column in Excel.
